The sand traps that Wooli Dunecare members put in place over the last year seemed to have been worth their weight in gold in the recent storms that hit southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
The first storm that hit in late January took a lot of sand away from the beach – however, the sand traps seemed to slow down any lateral movement of the water – helping to stop any scouring of the incipient and fore dunes of the beach.

The winds of the second storm that hit in mid-February were mostly easterlies – this had the effect of blowing a lot of sand up into the trough between the fore dune and the incipient dune – as can be seen in some of the photos on this page.
