The Wooli community does not accept the recommendations of the 2010 draft proposal, or the process that the council has undertaken to arrive at them.
Specific concerns include:
- local knowledge of the environment and history of the coastline has not been considered in preparing the plan
- the dynamics of the dune systems have not been appropriately considered in preparing the plan
- a range of viable options for sustainable management of the environment have not been appropriately considered.
- the community has not been appropriately engaged in the process of developing and reviewing the plan.
Wooli community are strongly united in rejecting Clarence Valley Council’s ‘planned retreat’ option.
The community wants to take a positive and proactive approach with Council to seek viable alternative options and solutions to environmental protection and the preservation of this unique village and its environment.
Over one hundred submissions were received by Council in response to the release of the Draft Plan and an illustrative selection of these can be viewed on the links below.
